How to check your KiwiSaver

Often we hear New Zealanders ask the questions ‘Where is my KiwiSaver?’ and ‘How do I access my KiwiSaver?’. Given KiwiSaver is frequently one of their biggest assets, it is pretty important to know where to find it.

How can I find where my KiwiSaver is?

  • The first place to check would be your online banking portal. Banks often transfer investors to KiwiSavers managed by themselves.

  • The next place to check is the IRD website. Log in to the IRD portal, then click on the hyperlink ‘KiwiSaver Member’. This will then bring you to a page which details your KiwiSaver ‘Scheme Provider’.

How can I check my balance

Now that you know which KiwiSaver scheme you are invested with, you can go ahead and check your balance. All KiwiSaver providers will have an online user log in portal which will require you to enter a username and password to access. If you cannot remember your log in, just ring your KiwiSaver provider, they will then provide you with a temporary access log in, your username and the ability to update your password.

How can I check what fund I am in

Once you are logged in to your KiwiSaver portal, you will be able to determine which fund type you are invested in. Fund types range from:

  • Conservative

  • Moderate (also known as conservative balanced)

  • Balanced

  • Growth

  • Aggressive

  • Others including ‘Cash’ or single sector funds i.e. Australasian Equity’s
